After the release of her telling and emotional YouTube documentary Simply Complicated, Demi Lovato shared advice on all things love and relationships via interview with Arianna Huffington for Thrive Global Podcast with iHeartRadio.
“I think that when you find something that’s very special to you, don’t deny yourself of the opportunity,” she said of long-term relationships for young people who are at “an age when most people are just dating around.”
She would know, because after spending six years with actor Wilmer Valderrama, the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer admitted to never loving anybody like she loved Wilmer. “I still love him,” she confesses in Simply Complicated. The two broke up last summer, after falling in love when she was just 18 years old. “I’m pretty sure that I’m not going to meet anybody that compares to him but I’m trying to keep an open heart and open mind when it comes to that.”
The 25-year-old did, however, make it clear to Huffington that being single kept her “more focused and less distracted” during the making of her latest album, Tell Me You Love Me, adding that whenever she had down time, instead of going to hang out with her boyfriend she would turn to music instead. “I had all this extra time in the studio that great things came out of,” Lovato expressed.
The Grammy-nominated star, who has also been linked to Joe Jonas and MMA fighter Guilherme “Bomba” Vasconcelos in the past, recently revealed she’s open to dating both men and women, and advised fans that “it is important to remember that you are young and you have a lot of life ahead of you. So, with that in mind, make your future decisions; choose them wisely,” she said.
